It was another exciting morning in Chicago
with everyone looking forward to talks from Gwenyth Paltrow and Zooey Deschannel. Though most known for their roles as actresses both Hollywood celebrities also have their own businesses, Goop and HelloGiggles respectively.
Their interview featured some really interesting thoughts on how to grow a company from the ground up, including the importance of partnership as a “safety net there to help you get back up and to push you to grow”, the importance of giving back to the community through a “giving economy” and how essential self-belief is to starting your own company, “unwavering self-belief is everything and hold your vision tight- where you look is where you go”.
The theme of a “giving economy” and contributing to the community was a recurring one throughout day 3 of the Summit. Sage demonstrated how important this idea is to their brand with the announcement of a multi-year sponsorship deal for the Invictus games. It was truly inspirational and humbling to hear from the Invictus games competitors, showing that with the right mind-set anyone can achieve their goals. Vicky Gosling, OBE really emphasised this in her talk saying “if you put your mind to it, anything is achievable”.
There was then the opportunity to attend a variety of sessions on digital marketing, agile methodology and the roadmap for Sage X3 upgrades, before the big ‘Shark Tank’ session in the afternoon. This featured Robert Herjavec, Founder and CEO of Herjavec Group and Daymond John, Founder and CEO of FUBU, both who star in the hit ABC show ‘Shark Tank’. It was a real one for the entrepreneurs with the key theme being how to effectively secure investment and grow a business.
Sink Or Swim
The Sharks talked about the importance of hard work “purpose comes from two ways. Either you know your purpose or you learn what it is through pain and struggles”, having the right attitude towards hiring talent in order to grow your business “if you are going to do everything in business, you are going to remain small” and how money isn’t everything, “great entrepreneurs always find a way, money is never the showstopper”. It was an electric session which showed how exciting, challenging but ultimately rewarding running your own company can be. Just make sure you're equipped with a stellar work ethic and the guts to dive head first into the ‘Shark Tank’.
After a busy day it was time for everyone to let their hair down with an incredible performance from the world famous 'The Killers'. The band played a set full of chart toppers and it was certainly a spectacular finale to the day's events.
