Boats to Bentley Bike Ride

Chris Schafer tackles the 50 mile bike ride for charity

A brave team of cyclists took on the “Boats to Bentley” challenge in the sweltering 30 degree July heat on Saturday, raising over £5,000 for charity.

The intrepid team of Bentley Bikers, including Mysoft’s very own Chris Schafer, cycled from the Marina at Warsash on the Solent all the way to Bentley Primary School in Hampshire.

The fund raising event was all in aid of Bentley Primary School’s PTFA with a fantastic sum of £5357 being raised. If you haven’t donated yet then the fund raising page is still open! See the link below:

After many weeks of hard training it was with some dread that the forecast was checked… 32 degrees was predicted in Hampshire! The 50 mile bike ride would be a challenge enough in itself but now it was scheduled for the hottest day of the year so far. Luckily, this would not deter the determined “Boats to Bentley” team who donned their helmets and set out for the very hot and sticky ride…

The views from the Marina at Warsash made for a beautiful start to the ride and it was a great to see so many people turn out to participate in the event.

From the sea front the cyclists set off to tackle the long ride to Bentley. The route began by following the coastline towards Stubbington, where the team turned in land and began the climb northwards.  From here it was lovely ride through the beautiful Hampshire countryside taking in many villages such as Knowle, Newton, Warnford and finally, Bentley. Thankfully, there were many drinks and refreshments spots along the way, with the team of cyclists managing to seek out some much needed shade!

The bike ride culminated in a grand finish at Bentley Primary School, after 50 miles and 6 hours of riding. There were some very well deserved chilled beers waiting for the team, as well as a BBQ and ice creams for their supporters. The fund raising event raised a brilliant £5357 for the Bentley Primary School PTFA. The money is all put towards improving the children’s experience and learning, with the aim this year being to raise enough for an additional school minibus. The PTFA not only aims to complement the children’s education but to enhance community spirit amongst the children, teachers and parents as well.

The “Boats to Bentley” was a brilliant, if a bit hot, day for all involved. A massive thank you to all the organisers and everyone who has donated.
