Sage X3 R2 2024 | Update Summary

The Sage X3 2024 R2 release brings a fresh wave of improvements across APIs, testing, compliance, distribution, finance, manufacturing, platform performance, and development. While the release notes are extensive, the real value comes from understanding how these enhancements reduce daily friction, support compliance, and make operations more scalable. Below is an easy-to-digest breakdown of the most impactful updates — and why they matter for teams using Sage X3 every day.

APIs

GraphQL API for Customer Portal: Sales

Sage X3 now offers expanded GraphQL APIs to enable customers or e-commerce platforms to create and update sales orders directly. This matters for businesses wanting smoother self-service ordering. Instead of manually reentering orders received through online storefronts or customer portals, the API ensures data flows instantly and accurately into the ERP, reducing errors and freeing customer service teams to handle more strategic requests.

GraphQL APIs for Warehousing

New GraphQL endpoints for warehousing offer modern, scalable ways to integrate logistics processes. Organisations with automated picking systems, external WMS integrations, or custom mobile apps can now synchronise stock movements more reliably. This helps warehouses reduce bottlenecks and eliminate delays caused by outdated or custom-built integrations that rely on older technologies such as SOAP.

Automated Test Platform

Upgrade to Java 17

With Jenkins now requiring Java 17, the Automated Test Platform 3.3.0 provides full compatibility with both Java 11 and 17. While teams can continue operating on Java 11, transitioning to Java 17 ensures smoother upgrades, better performance, and long-term stability. This helps IT teams avoid unexpected interruptions when updating CI/CD pipelines.

Automating XML Testing

The test platform now supports controlling XML content and validating e-invoice and e-credit note conformance. With increasing international requirements around electronic invoicing, businesses can automate compliance checks to catch issues long before files reach tax authorities. This drastically reduces manual validation work for finance teams and limits the risk of rejected filings.

Framework Evolution

Platform updates include compatibility with Node.js 18, new step definitions for XML control, expanded quick-filter interactions, improved progress visibility during test execution, and better Allure reporting. These improvements streamline automated testing for development teams, making it easier to diagnose issues quickly and maintain stable test suites as business processes evolve.

Compliance

2025 DAS2 Changes — France

For suppliers paid in 2024, Sage X3 now generates UTF-8 encoded DAS2 files to meet new French requirements. Ensuring correct encoding prevents rejected filings and helps finance teams submit compliant declarations without needing external tools or manual file corrections.

New Legal Information on French Invoices

French decree 2022-1299 introduces new invoice formatting requirements, including operation types, structured identifiers, and optional tax notices. Sage X3 now embeds these legally required details directly into invoice printouts. This removes the need for custom reports or manual annotations, reducing errors and keeping companies compliant by default.

Spain: Updated SII Forms and Canary Island Support

Spain’s latest changes to forms 303, 347, 349, 193, and 296 are now reflected in X3. The SII tool has also been improved to support managing sites and sending/receiving invoices in the Canary Islands — a region with unique tax rules. These enhancements spare finance teams from manual data adjustments and help ensure smooth reporting across Spanish jurisdictions.

SAF-T Autoinvoice Generation — Portugal

Sage X3 now supports SAF-T extraction for auto-invoices for multiple suppliers. This is particularly helpful for companies with large supplier networks, as each supplier’s data is cleanly separated into its own file, reducing reconciliation time.

Anti-Fraud Law Enhancements — Spain

Early-access features for Verifactu and non-Verifactu processes include integrity checks, event generation, QR code creation, and hash code generation. While still not intended for production, these features show the direction Sage X3 is heading as Spain finalises strict anti-fraud regulations. Staying ahead of these changes ensures that businesses will be ready once enforcement becomes mandatory.

VAT Requirements for Cork & Forestry Products — Portugal

The system now supports declaration code 107 for specialised VAT reporting. This is key for industries operating in forestry or manufacturing sectors where misclassification can lead to compliance penalties.

Structured Address Support for Bank Files

ISO 20022 will soon prohibit unstructured addresses. Sage X3’s adoption of structured addresses ensures businesses won’t face bank file rejections starting in 2026. This reduces the risk of payment delays and failed transfers for financial operations across Europe.

Distribution

Mobile Automation Improvements

The stock site now displays consistently across all mobile pages, making it easier for warehouse users to confirm they’re working in the correct location — especially useful when teams handle multiple sites.

Default receiving locations can now be automatically populated for purchase, miscellaneous, and intersite receipts. This reduces input errors and accelerates receiving workflows, particularly when dealing with repetitive stock movements.

Stock Valuation Batch Initialisation

Stock valuation records can now be initialised in batch via the updated function FUNCREPIT. For companies managing large stock portfolios, this speeds up financial period-end processes and simplifies reconciliation.

Improved Mobile Searches and Identifier-Based Actions

Users can now:

  • Search suppliers by name during purchase receipts

  • Search stock count lines by UPC

  • Issue stock in units different from the stock line

  • Filter by License Plate Number during allocations

These enhancements improve mobile usability and accuracy, particularly in fast-paced warehouses where scanning and quick identification are critical.

Finance

VAT Date Adjustment During Reversals

When reversing journal entries, VAT dates now automatically align with either the reversal date or document date based on configuration. This prevents discrepancies in VAT declarations—helping finance teams maintain accurate tax reporting without manual corrections.

Delete Simulated VAT Returns

You can now delete in-progress VAT returns if no actual extraction is linked. This allows finance teams to clean up test data or restart processes without leaving behind incomplete or conflicting records.

Bank Statement Import Flexibility

Portuguese and Spanish legislations can both use the Bank File (Portugal) field in single-legislation folders, providing more flexibility for multinational organisations.

Manufacturing

Shop Floor Control

A new cloud-native Shop Floor Control app allows operators to start, stop, pause, and review work order operations. This real-time tracking reduces paperwork, improves time accuracy, and supports better production reporting.

Web Scheduling Enhancements

The GraphQL API now covers components, purchase orders, and BOMs. Combined with a simplified installation process, businesses get easier integration and faster deployment of scheduling capabilities.

Weighing Scale Usability Improvements

Lot selection screens, full-touch mode support, and clearer messages help operators avoid misreads and errors while weighing materials. New parameters also ensure better control for scales using modern protocols.

Lead Times in MRP and MPS

Production, purchasing, and quality control lead times now display directly in MRP/MPS inquiries, giving planners a clearer picture of realistic replenishment timelines.

Platform

Access to Sage Network

Administrators can now register their organisations to unlock Sage Network services such as Data Clean & Control, e-invoicing, AI services, and online licensing. Centralising these features helps companies streamline onboarding and prepare for future enhancements.

4GL ZIP File API

New 4GL capabilities allow developers to compress files directly on the server. This helps simplify custom processes involving file transfers, backups, or report packaging.

Security & Infrastructure Upgrades

Major updates include:

  • Secure SQL connections for print servers

  • Microsoft SQL Server for Linux support

  • Authentication via Sage accounts

  • JavaWeb Server, Apache, OpenSSL, and Tomcat updates

  • MongoDB upgrade to version 7

  • Syracuse security enhancements

  • 64-bit print server framework

These changes improve system stability, performance, and security across the application.

Improved UI Elements and Logging

User interface improvements — automatic tree width adjustments, vertical sizing for grids, enhanced log reading, and reduced locking issues — make everyday navigation smoother and reduce downtime caused by session locks or slow log inspection.

Sage X3 Builder

GraphQL Enhancements and File Handling

Developers can now manage CLOBS and BLOBS in GraphQL mutations, opening doors for richer custom integrations involving large data or documents.

Mobile Automation Extensibility

Core pages and TypeScript code are now available directly in the Developer Studio, enabling cleaner and more maintainable extensions to mobile workflows.

Performance Management

New parameters allow administrators to control how many GraphQL operations run in parallel. This helps optimise performance during heavy workloads or complex customisation processes.

Sage X3 2024 R2 delivers a broad range of functional, regulatory, and technical improvements that directly address real-world needs — from automating compliance and strengthening APIs to enhancing warehouse productivity and improving platform security. These updates help organisations operate more efficiently, stay compliant, and prepare for the future of digital operations and connected services.
